Prerequisites
Candidates must be:
a. Not less than 18 years of age
b. Be in possession of an in date Medical Fitness Certificate - ENG1
and have completed
c. (i) For candidates with no formal engineering craft training, not less than 1 month's service as a yacht engineer; or
(ii) For candidates with MN MEOL basic engineering craft skills training or MCA - approved formal engineering craft training, no yacht engineer service is required.
d. The ancillary courses listed below
- Personal Survival Techniques (STCW Code A-V1/1-1);
- Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (STCW Code A-V1/1-2);
- Elementary First Aid (STCW Code A-V1/1-3);
- Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (STCW Code A-V1/1-4).
Course Description
The objective of this course is to provide students with the basic theoretical knowledge and some practical hands on experience of diesel engines to enable them to meet the requirements of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) Codes of Practice for the Safety of Large Commercial Sailing and Motor Vessels.
