The course is divided into four sections:
1. Ship Construction
2. Stability
3. Meteorology
4. Seamanship
The following topics are covered:
* Methods of yacht construction and local stresses due to static and dynamic loading
* Bilge-pumping systems
* The functions of classification societies
* Basic principles of hydrostatics and related terms
* The concept of initial stability
* Global and local meteorological effects
* Meteorological instruments and weather information
* The principles for safe navigational watchkeeping
* Safe Working Practises
* International Code of Signals
